This cove boasts crystal-clear waters, perfect for a refreshing swim after a hike over the hill from Sougia. However, if you're not up for the return hike, be sure to check the boat times (currently departing at 15:30) beforehand. Keep in mind that there is no mobile phone reception at Lissos, so you won't be able to call a water taxi from there. While it is possible to hike with children aged 8 and up, be sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection. Don't forget to pack your snorkeling gear for a chance to explore the underwater world. Along the way, you'll be treated to a beautiful gorge with an impressive overhanging wall. Take a moment to observe the ancient sea level visible on the rocks, which sits some 8 meters above today's level. On July 21st, 365 AD, a massive earthquake rocked Crete, lifting the southwest coast by up to 9 meters. This means that Lissos bay was once deeper inland than it is today, a testament to the incredible force and destruction caused. You can even see the palaeo-shoreline on the rocks during the boat ride back.
