This cove boasts crystal-clear waters, perfect for a refreshing swim after a hike over the hill from Sougia. However, if you're not up for the return hike, be sure to check the boat times (currently departing at 15:30) beforehand. Keep in mind that there is no mobile phone reception at Lissos, so you won't be able to call a water taxi from there. While it is possible to hike with children aged 8 and up, be sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection. Don't forget to pack your snorkeling gear for a chance to explore the underwater world. Along the way, you'll be treated to a beautiful gorge with an impressive overhanging wall. Take a moment to observe the ancient sea level visible on the rocks, which sits some 8 meters above today's level. On July 21st, 365 AD, a massive earthquake rocked Crete, lifting the southwest coast by up to 9 meters. This means that Lissos bay was once deeper inland than it is today, a testament to the incredible force and destruction caused. You can even see the palaeo-shoreline on the rocks during the boat ride back.

To reach the stunning beach and historical sanctuary of Asklepios, one must embark on a one-hour trek over the mountain. Though not particularly challenging, it's advisable to don a pair of sturdy athletic shoes for the journey. Bringing along some water and snacks is also recommended. Once you've had your fill of sun, sand and sea, you can either catch the 15:30 daily boat back to Sougia or make the return trip on foot.

The journey from Sougia to this charming little pebble beach is definitely worth it. Despite its slightly remote location, the serenity and tranquility of this place is truly remarkable. It also seems to be a popular spot for those who prefer to sunbathe in the nude, perhaps owing to its seclusion. If you're looking to return to Sougia, you can either catch a boat at a set time for €5 per person, or pay €10 per person for a more flexible schedule.

I embarked on a picturesque hike from Sougia to this stunning beach, taking in the natural beauty of the gorge along the way. The journey took approximately 1.5 hours each way, but the refreshing sea and crystal clear waters upon arrival made it all worthwhile. As an added bonus, the ancient city is located nearby and is definitely worth a visit. Overall, this was a fabulous trip that I highly recommend to anyone seeking a unique and memorable beach experience.
