The beach is quite lengthy and has peaceful waters, along with excellent facilities for accommodation and food. In reality, it feels like a genuine village nestled within the forest, with numerous houses. Adjacent to the beach, you can still find the remnants of a former fish factory.

The beach boasts tranquil and crystal-clear waters, with thick sand adorned with numerous shells and pebbles. The sunset at the beach is truly stunning. Situated on the beach is a central pier, with an old abandoned sardine factory and a small stream and rocks on one side leading to Jaconema beach. On the other side, towards Mirante do Bananal, there is another small stream and rocks. This makes it an ideal spot for snorkeling and sport/recreational fishing. Regarding the structure of the beach and Vila de Matariz, we didn't explore the entire village as it is quite small. However, we did come across two bars, a bakery, a mini-market, an inn, and a restaurant. If you plan on staying in the village, we recommend bringing medication, insect repellent, and some special food or drinks from the mainland, as the village lacks a variety of options. One observation we made between our first visit and this one (10 years ago) is the absence of designated areas for bathing and boats. We noticed a significant increase in the number of boats over the past decade, which has limited the bathing space. To access the island's beaches, you can either take a boat or follow the well-marked trails. Despite the rain, the trails were still passable on the day of our visit. There is a regular morning boat that transports both village residents and tourists to the pier in Angra/Centro. Additionally, there are boatmen with boats and speedboats available for transfers and routine tours.

The beach is absolutely stunning with a breathtaking rocky wall alongside a vibrant mangrove. However, out of all the places I've visited in the region, it was one of the least welcoming. Additionally, the factory ruins are inaccessible as they are closed off, leaving only the exterior visible.
