Latest reviews on Whitsunday island's beaches

Whitehaven Beach

Whitehaven Beach is definitely one of the top attractions in the Whitsunday Islands. You have the option to purchase packages from local tours or buy tickets for a boat ride to get there. There are both half-day and full-day trips available for you to choose from. The full-day itinerary includes a quick walk to the Hill Inlet lookout, which I highly recommend. As for the beach itself, it's perfect for various water activities like stand-up paddleboarding and swimming, or simply relaxing and soaking up the sun. There's also a lookout for those who enjoy hiking, but please note that it's different from the Hill Inlet Lookout. Additionally, the white sand is unique as it doesn't get hot and the particles are incredibly fine, almost like powder, making it a delightful experience to walk on.

Hill Inlet Lookout Beach

There are numerous companies available to transport you to the inlet from Ham.Is or the mainland. Take the ascent to the lookout point using the stairs, with restroom facilities available if necessary. Enjoy the stunning views from the platforms before descending to the beach. Experience the beauty of the untouched waters and sandy shore.

Dugong Beach

We decided to anchor here for lunch one day because we wanted to climb Whitsunday Peak. The water has a muddy bottom, so it's not as clear as other places in the Whitsunday group. It would provide shelter from a northeasterly or easterly wind, but not from a northerly or southerly wind, so it's not as protected as it may seem. Therefore, I don't think it's suitable for anchoring small crafts. There is a camping spot with several sites, but you need to book with the national parks, and I saw them checking, so expect a visit. It would be a great spot if you wanted to camp in the campground for a few days, although the beach is not the most beautiful. However, most people are sleeping in their boats, and this is not the best place to anchor. It's too shallow for bigger boats and exposed for smaller boats. If you want to hike the peak, you need to get there early. The hike takes about four hours round trip, and you wouldn't want to be stuck on the trail in the dark. Make sure you're prepared with hiking shoes, water, and snacks because this is not an easy hike. But it's definitely worth it if you're up for the challenge.
