The Livanates area boasts the finest beach, perfect for families with young children or those who are not confident swimmers. The water is shallow and gently sloping, with three sandbanks that provide a secure resting spot. Even those who cannot swim can enjoy this beach, with the water level reaching only up to the waist, chest, or even just the head. The sun quickly heats up the water, making it comfortable for older children to play without constant supervision, allowing parents to relax and unwind.
It is unfortunate that the Greeks do not appreciate their natural environment as much as they should. Though the sea is polluted with plastic and other debris, the beaches should be maintained and cleaned regularly. Sunshades and loungers are too densely packed, and beach clubs and similar establishments have taken over the area, detracting from the beach's natural beauty. Tourists, especially those from Northern Europe, prefer clean and unspoiled beaches over instant food and drink services.
When we first visited the beach in the early 2000s, it was a paradise. We loved it so much that we even had our wedding reception there, with only one catering business in sight. Unfortunately, the area has since been marred by unnecessary construction and the proliferation of beach clubs, ruining much of its former charm.
Despite this, the beach remains a must-visit when we are in the area visiting family. We hope that the kind-hearted locals will take steps to preserve their beautiful country and restore the beach to its former glory.
