It's incredibly difficult to find this beach. After leaving Itaoca, you need to follow the sign for Lopes Mendes and continue past a large gate. Unfortunately, there are no indications for Aroeira, only signs for other places. So, you have to follow the path that isn't indicated. As you get closer to the beach, you'll come across a huge sign that says 'private farm'. It almost seems like they're trying to prevent access to the beach...(!)
When I arrived, a German shepherd came to greet me, and the house staff became alert when they saw me in the area (although I was already on my way out).
What's worse is that there is a lot of rubbish on the sand (presumably from the sea).
The beach isn't as beautiful as the website claims, as it has been transformed into a large lawn for the enjoyment of the houses. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures because I was extremely frustrated with everything.
(However, I still gave it a high score to encourage the public use of beaches in Brazil - which, by the way, are public goods).
The journey from Aroeira to Lopes Mendes is peaceful, very flat, and surrounded by beautiful woods. However, it's not a short trip. There are some signs warning about the presence of alligators, but I decided not to explore that further!
