Map of Sardinia

Spiaggia di Lu Impostu

Spiaggia Li Cossi

Cala Dragunara

Spiaggia Di Romazzino

Cala di Pedra Longa

See in your mind’s eye a cozy lagoon protected from the wind with clear aquamarine water. Envision this cove framed by picturesque rocks, and imagine the amazing underwater caves hidden beneath the waters. Add to this the white sandy beaches surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation, and you have a picture-perfect paradise both on land and underwater.

All of the above and more can be found in Sardinia, an ideal spot for snorkeling and other beach-related activities. For observing underwater life, the beaches in the northern part of the island are particularly good. This list includes some of them – both bustling, crowded ones and quiet, secluded ones. All these beaches are characterized not only by their ideal conditions for snorkeling but also by transportation accessibility, picturesque landscapes, and the opportunity to alternate between swimming with fish and relaxing on the shore.

Spiaggia di Lu Impostu

This beach offers a picturesque view of the granite island of Molara, which is part of the Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo Marine Nature Park. At Lu Impostu, you can rent a boat to reach both Molara and another island of the reserve, Tavolara. In the 19th-20th centuries, Tavolara was home to a tiny independent state ruled by the Bertoleone family. Today, descendants of this family own the only restaurant on the island. As a protected marine reserve, the surrounding waters of the islands preserve a unique underwater world to be explored.

Spiaggia Li Cossi

Spiaggia Li Cossi is a clean, secluded beach that requires a little over a kilometer walk to reach, but the scenic path is not difficult to traverse. The final point of this path is an observation deck located directly above the beach, offering breathtaking views of the sea and the pink granite cliffs surrounding the beach, as well as the islands of Corsica (to the northeast) and Asinara (to the west). From the observation deck, you can descend to the beach via a staircase carved into the rock with wide, safe steps.

Cala Dragunara

Cala Dragunara is a small beach in a cozy, wind-protected bay located in the Capo Caccia Marine Reserve. To the right of the beach is a pier from which excursion boats depart to Neptune's Grotto, located 2.5 km from Dragunara Bay. This cave, with numerous stalactites, has an entrance just 1 meter above sea level. To enter the grotto, you need to descend a staircase carved into the rock. The underwater area around here also has sea caves, which may be especially interesting for snorkeling enthusiasts.

Spiaggia Di Romazzino

The Spiaggia Di Romazzino beach is adjacent to the recreation area of the Romazzino Hotel, considered one of the best in Sardinia. Essentially, it is one large beach, with one part designated for hotel guests and the other part for visitors. Celebrities often stay at the Romazzino Hotel, so it's possible to encounter a world star on the eponymous beach. The name Romazzino translates to "rosemary." The beach is indeed surrounded by thickets of this Mediterranean plant, which fills the sea air with an intoxicating aroma in the summer months.

Cala di Pedra Longa

This beach is for those who want to go snorkeling or spearfishing rather than relax on the shore. The shore here is rocky, so there are very few families with children. Instead, you have luxurious views of the endless sea with white boats and yachts frequently visiting the bay. The place is named after the nearby natural monument Pedra Longa – a limestone pyramid rising 130 meters above sea level. The extra adventurous traveler can climb to the top of the pyramid for a breathtaking view of the surrounding area.
