This beach is like a dream, but it's disheartening to see some individuals leaving their trash behind 😡

Cala Mia beach

We visited this beach during a time when there was a change in management, and I believe that the issues we encountered have likely been resolved by now. Initially, I had paid for a budget-friendly 4-hour fishing trip in the archipelago with a local guide and small boat before our arrival. Unfortunately, that didn't work out as planned. The owner informed us that we might have a subpar experience because they had a new inexperienced guide who was unfamiliar with the waters. They suggested upgrading to the premier boat with a highly skilled expert for an additional $800. My husband agreed, but during dinner, we were approached and told that this amount wasn't enough, and an extra $500 was required to cover the cost of fuel. At a total cost of $1700 now, my husband decided to cancel the plan (excluding the expenses for our accommodation and food/bar tab, of course). Furthermore, the catamaran had been damaged by lightning and needed repairs. The option of a horseback ride into the interior of the island with a picnic lunch was also unavailable since the woman who owned the other property was no longer associated with them. Needless to say, I was disappointed by the limited activity choices. On a positive note, Jessica and Fernando provided excellent service in the charming and cozy restaurant. The food was definitely of superior quality, and the remote location of the island was truly memorable. I intended to reach out to Frommers and share our mixed reviews, as it seemed that Cala Mia was possibly in the process of transforming into a more renowned destination for sport fishing. However, as a casual island retreat, this small resort did not disappoint. Lastly, it was unfortunate that on the one night out of our five-night stay, a group of four fishing enthusiasts who had a successful day came into the dining room and were loud, celebratory, and obnoxious. It made us feel like second-class customers.

Playa Gavilla

This serene beach offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With no waves to disturb the tranquility, it's the perfect spot for families to relax and unwind. Unlike other beaches, there's no blaring music or distracting noise to ruin the peaceful atmosphere. However, it can get a bit crowded during the summer months. To access the beach, you'll need to pass through a private farm. Luckily, the friendly family that owns the land provides huts with comfortable hammocks, clean sanitary services, and even food preparation services. The standout dish? Their delicious lobster! For a bit of adventure, you can rent kayaks and banana boats. Just keep in mind that the access road requires a 4x4 vehicle. If you're driving a sedan, it's best to park at Playa Hermosa and take a water taxi with a local boatman. Alternatively, you can coordinate with the farm's owner, Mr. Esteban Guerra, who can reserve a ranch for you from his cell phone. Camping is available in the area, and you may even spot some howler monkeys during your stay. All in all, this beach is a hidden gem that's well worth the visit.

Upon setting foot on this beach, one can't help but feel like a character in a deserted island film. The serene atmosphere and lack of crowds make it seem like a private oasis. It's almost as if you've stumbled upon a secret paradise, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The beach is stunning, especially during low tide when it stretches out for a long distance. There's also a restaurant and pool nearby that serves delicious meals.
