2 Very poor

This place is no longer operational. The roads leading to the location were in terrible condition. Perhaps in the past, it was a remarkable place. The view is breathtaking and the water is pristine. However, the beaches were all dirty and there was no one present to clean them. Additionally, there are no stores offering food or water. I would strongly advise avoiding this place and any others in the surrounding area. Moreover, there were frequent power outages. On a positive note, the people in Cuba are absolutely wonderful.

The beach at the resort is extensive and well-equipped with plenty of chairs. The area near the cabanas is the best for swimming, so those chairs tend to fill up quickly in the morning. The sand is black, making it hard to see the sea floor, but the water is clear. It’s advisable to wear water shoes due to the abundance of sea urchins. While the beach is mostly clean, its horseshoe shape does mean that debris, including an alarming number of drug baggies, frequently washes ashore.

The price is great considering what you receive. They have a limited selection of items, such as only one volleyball. I appreciated the fact that you can easily leave the resort and explore the town or the hills, feeling secure. There is room for improvement in terms of offering more water sports, and the beach on the left could be better maintained. The drinks could be improved, but the beer is satisfactory.

4 Frustrating

Avoid booking the older rooms located in the two-story buildings along the beach, as they are outdated and unstable. Our door was even unable to open properly, leading to a cramped patio. The food quality is subpar, even by Cuban standards, and the Dining Room resembles a retirement home. The beach itself has brown sand and the water appears murky and rough. However, it's worth noting that there are two resorts at Marea, and the second one situated on the hill (not beachfront) is much more pleasant, including the dining room. The majority of guests here are elderly snowbirds who constantly have a drink in hand. The excursions were enjoyable and the staff were friendly, but honestly, you can find much better options for just a slightly higher price.

This was my inaugural visit to Cuba, and it was absolutely incredible. The beach was incredibly serene, immaculate, and the locals were extremely welcoming. The children were occupied throughout the entire day, allowing us to reestablish our bond in a truly remarkable setting. The staff members were affable and accommodating. The accommodations were spotless and the air conditioning functioned flawlessly. The bartenders were prompt and amiable. The cappuccinos were absolutely delightful.
