4 Frustrating

The beach is quite small and there are an excessive number of sunbeds. By 10:30, it was already overcrowded. Although the water appears crystal clear in the photos, it is actually quite muddy. The staff at the beach bars is friendly and the service is satisfactory, but not exceptional. Overall, Bali and Varkotopos are somewhat overhyped and failed to meet expectations, particularly when considering other options available in Crete.

The beach is rather small, and it gets quite crowded with an excessive number of sunbeds. The sand is fine, and the sea is relatively shallow. However, as you move a few meters ahead, there are rocks and stones, so caution is necessary. There are ample showers and a limited number of changing rooms. Across the street, there are a handful of bars. The staff is pleasant and readily available to assist.

It's a lovely little beach with sandy shores. In Varkotopos, there aren't many shaded spots, but you can always find one of the sun umbrellas that are readily available. They're quite affordable. However, I suggest coming here earlier in the morning to avoid the crowds. Many people tend to arrive later in the day. The water near the shore may appear murky, but it becomes clearer as you go deeper. Varkotopos is popular among families with children due to the inflatable playing-course where kids can have fun. To enter, you'll need a special wrist ticket that you have to purchase. It's a bit pricey and only valid for one hour, which may not be worth it. There's another option for a full-day ticket, but it's a bit more expensive. Personally, I don't think it's worth the cost. However, it seems to be enjoyable for the children. Despite being quite crowded...

The beach is fantastic, offering all the necessary amenities: fine sand both on the shore and in the water, rocks lining the edges of the small cove, exceptionally clear and shallow waters that extend for quite a distance. Additionally, there are complimentary showers, beach bars that serve customers right on the beach, various water activities such as canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding, and even a sizable inflatable water park for children (and adults) to enjoy. It truly is an ideal spot!
