4 Frustrating

The beach is an ideal spot for both swimming and surfing. However, the abundance of bars and restaurants with subpar quality and exorbitant prices may leave much to be desired. The area is teeming with tourists, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. If you're looking for a place to let loose and have a good time, then this beach is definitely worth checking out.

This stunning beach boasts a lengthy stretch of pristine, unspoiled sand that spans approximately 5 kilometers. The southern end of the beach is a tranquil haven, while the northern end is home to a variety of surf schools, beach bars, and restaurants. While the waves can be exhilarating, it's essential to learn how to navigate them safely. For seasoned swimmers, the ocean is a refreshing respite. You'll find several beach bars that offer complimentary sunbeds and umbrellas upon purchase, or if you're staying at a beachfront hotel, they'll have their own. Unlike its bustling counterparts in Mirissa or Unawatuna, this beach is a peaceful oasis that's highly recommended. Along the road, you'll find a plethora of dining options to satisfy your cravings.

4 Frustrating

Although not the most breathtaking beach in Sri Lanka, it does have a certain charm as it is frequented by locals. However, the beach does have a cleanliness issue and is home to a plethora of bugs and mosquitoes. We chose to spend our last day of the trip here due to its proximity to Colombo.

We stumbled upon the most exquisite beach in Hikkaduwa. Its vast expanse of sandy shoreline is unparalleled. The tranquility is unparalleled as it is not overcrowded. The sunset is a breathtaking sight to behold. However, one may struggle to find a shaded spot during the day. The waves are quite strong, making it an ideal spot for surfing enthusiasts, but not particularly ideal for leisurely swimming.

The beach offers two primary surf breaks, with the beach break being ideal for those at the novice to intermediate level, while the main break is more suitable for experienced surfers seeking the thrill of pumping barrels.
