Akti Vouliagmenis beach

I took the metro from Omonia to Ellinikon and then hopped on the bus to Vouliagmeni beach for about 4 euros. The bus number 122 comes every 20 minutes and the ride takes around 40 minutes. The metro was reliable, but the bus was always full because passengers don't validate their tickets. Admission to Akti Vouliagmeni beach costs 10 euros on weekdays and 15 euros on weekends, which includes one sunbed and an umbrella. The beach itself is fantastic, with warm, clear water. The beach bar is reasonably priced compared to other places in Athens.

What a stunning day we had at Vouliagmenis beach! Sure, it's a bit of a trek from the cruise port, but trust me, it's worth it. We hopped on the City Sight Seeing Tour that conveniently picks you up right next to the terminal, and after a short 2-minute walk, we were on the Pireus-Athens line. As we strolled towards the A2 interchange for the Beach and Riviera Line, we couldn't help but admire the Acropolis. After a 30-40 minute drive, we arrived at the beach entrance, which was a mere 50 meters away from the Oceanis Restaurant. However, be warned, it's not a public beach, and you'll need to cough up €10 per adult and €5 per kid over 5 years old to gain access. But, once you're in, you'll find a public section with free blue chairs and umbrellas, and a private, serviced section with black sun chairs near the snack shop. The private section will set you back €65 for a set of two chairs, an umbrella, a little table, and a security box. But, don't worry, they'll give you a credit for the entrance tickets (maximum of four: two adults, two kids), so it's only an extra €35 in the end. The snack bar offers reasonably priced paninis, boxed salads, and bagged chips, so you won't go hungry. We had a great day, but I must confess, it was a Monday, so I can only imagine how busy it gets as the week goes on, especially on the weekend. Who knew paying for a beach visit could be so enjoyable?

It costs 15 euros to enter the beach, but there is parking available. The entrance is quite lovely and spacious. The water is not too deep, making it a great spot for swimming. It can be a bit difficult to find a spot around noon to 3 pm, but if you keep searching, you'll eventually find one. Additionally, there's a hammam massage available on-site. Remember to bring your own drinks and snacks, and enjoy your time at the beach!

Over the years, Vouliagmeni beach has been deteriorating. Despite being a paid beach for as long as I can recall, it has never appeared as unpleasant as it does now, as evidenced by my photos from my most recent visit in June 2022. Despite this, they have decided to increase the weekend entrance fee by almost double, which is more than three times what it was four to five years ago, without any consideration for upgrading the facilities. On weekends, it is challenging to locate sunbeds, and there are no reasonably priced refreshments or Wi-Fi available. To make matters worse, this year, the upper section of the beach was handed over to another beach bar, which is even more expensive. Although it is not their fault, jellyfish add to the unpleasantness of the situation.

This beach is the perfect spot to unwind and bask in the sun. It boasts a secluded atmosphere that makes it feel like your own private paradise. During the winter season, you can take advantage of the facilities for a mere 3€. Getting here is a breeze, as it's only an hour's drive from Athens via the metro and bus.
