The Potamida Taverna staff truly made our beach experience exceptional! Although the water may not be as crystalline as other Greek beaches, the unique feature of a river merging into the sea on this very shore is a sight to behold.

The crystal clear waters with gentle waves at Galini Harbor are a sight to behold. However, the beach can get a bit noisy and crowded due to the sunbeds being placed too close to each other. Nevertheless, there is a charming shopping area located just behind the beach, along with an array of taverns that cater to all palates. Although we only stayed for a few hours before heading to Plakias beach, we noticed ample parking spots behind the taverns. The sand is clean, albeit in a grayish hue, and can be slightly rocky near the shoreline.

Although I have visited Crete multiple times, I had never made it to Agia Galini beach until recently. Unfortunately, my experience there was less than ideal. The sand was not as advertised - while there was fine sand in the sunbed areas, the entrance to the sea was filled with sharp rocks and coarse sand that hurt my feet. I only managed to get into the water once, using the western corner of the beach. Additionally, the beach is located near the harbor, which may explain the murky water. This was not what I expected from a beach on the South Coast of Crete. However, the beach did offer a variety of services, including good and affordable food, as well as sunbeds for customers. There was also an appliance available for those with limited mobility.

The small fishing port boasts stunning scenery and welcoming locals, as well as some delightful coffee shops. It's best to visit during the quieter times at the beginning or end of summer. The beach is sandy and well-equipped with plenty of umbrellas and sun chairs. The atmosphere is incredibly pleasant and there's a sense of history here too, with an ancient city and harbor dating back to the Minoan civilization.
