Enchanted by the captivating descriptions and stunning images, I eagerly booked a trip to Vaadhoo island for a hefty sum of 700 USD. Upon arriving after sunset, I was greeted with a serene atmosphere and stayed until 10 PM. Although I only caught glimpses of a few sparkling blue plankton scattered along the shore, the clear sky and half moon provided a picturesque backdrop. While it may not have lived up to the exaggerated depictions seen online, I was grateful for the opportunity to witness the local culture and wildlife thriving on the untouched coastline, which far exceeded the offerings at the resort.

Vaadhoo island is renowned for its mesmerizing natural phenomenon known as the sea of stars. This awe-inspiring display is caused by bioluminescent phytoplankton called dinoflagellates. Recently, a Harvard University researcher named Woodland Hastings discovered a distinctive channel in the dinoflagellate cell membrane that reacts to electrical signals, providing a possible explanation for the algae's luminous glow.
