During our September visit to Playa Farallon, located next to playa Blanca, we discovered a pristine beach that was relatively quiet during the weekdays, but became more crowded on the weekends. There are only a few restaurants that offer cocktails and beer on the beach, with additional options located inland. The water was warm with some waves, making it suitable for confident swimmers, but it was not very clear. The sand was soft and varied in color from beige to black, depending on which end of the long stretch you were on. Walking the length of the beach can take up to 40 minutes. The west end near the river mouth next to Playa Blanca had a more local and run-down feel, while the east side was newer with high rise resorts dominating the area. Unfortunately, there were limited options for budget or moderate priced accommodation, as the area was dominated by expensive resorts and high rises. To get to Playa Farallon, we took the IntraAmericana highway from Panama City or David, and then hailed a small public white bus marked Farallon for $0.50 USD - $0.75 USD or took a taxi for $3 USD total from the Farallon exit bus stop, which was less than 10 minutes away.
