10 Exceptional

Nha Trang area boasts a variety of stunning beaches and islands, some of which are particularly popular among tourists. Diep Son Island, on the other hand, is more well-known among locals. However, as a foreign traveler, I would like to share my personal experience, both positive and negative. To reach the island, the only option is to take a speedboat. Unfortunately, during my visit, the jetty was undergoing construction, which made it quite dusty and challenging to maneuver luggage through the dirt. Although the speedboat provided life jackets, the driver's high speed and the impact of the waves made the ride quite bumpy. Given its small size, there are limited activities available on the island, mainly swimming and kayaking. However, there are a few picturesque spots perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy shots. In my opinion, it is a tranquil island where one can disconnect from civilization. If you choose to eat on the island, whether it's for a day trip or an overnight stay, all meals are provided by the island operator. I was particularly impressed with the fresh seafood they served, including oysters, snails, lobsters, and squid. The entire island relies on solar power and rainwater. Consequently, there are times when the power is cut to allow the solar batteries to recharge. Shower facilities are available at the central restaurant or in the chalets, and the toilets are basic without any luxury amenities. If you decide to stay overnight, it's important to be prepared. The island operator has been granted permission by the government to develop the island at their own expense. As a result, the chalets are powered by gasoline generators, and at night, the electricity for lights and fans may be turned off. Additionally, there is no air-conditioning, so you'll experience the natural breeze and the soothing sounds of the waves, just like in the days before air-conditioning was invented. Diep Son Island has its own unique charms and limitations. I would recommend approaching it with an open mind and embracing the experience without any high expectations. If you do so, I'm certain you will thoroughly enjoy this place.

6 Pleasant

I was really let down by this beach. It's quite dirty and there's no opportunity for swimming. The facilities are quite limited, and the food on the island is just average. The only thing that stood out was the ability to walk to another island when the tide is low.

4 Frustrating

The beach was quite underwhelming. It was not well-maintained, and swimming was not possible due to its condition. There were limited amenities available, and the food on the island was just average. The only noteworthy aspect was the opportunity to walk to another island when the tide was low. It would be preferable to find a different location where you can walk in shallow water.

You may have heard about Diep Son from the famous image of sand roads that used to connect three islands. However, when I visited Diep Son, the sand roads were no longer visible. I could only see a small portion of the road, and it was not connected to any other island. In the past, things were different as we could clearly see and even walk on the entire road. The guide informed us that to witness the complete road nowadays, we would need to visit around 4-5 AM in the morning when the tides are at their lowest.

The sea is clean and calm with no waves. The boat ticket to the island costs 200,000 VND for one adult. The water is quite cold in December.
