It's really disappointing. We came here hoping to discover a nice beach where we could unwind with the kids. However, the sand was littered with trash and the water was quite polluted. The entire beach had a strong smell of garbage. It had the potential to be a beautiful spot, but it seems like the city needs to take some action to address the current state of this place, which used to be a popular destination for families. I understand that the pollution in the bay is a major problem, but the least they could do is organize regular trash pick-up.

The beach in the Urca neighborhood is quite pleasant, with calm and shallow waters that lack waves. It's important to be cautious of the rocky shoreline. Unfortunately, there are instances where a significant amount of plastic debris can be seen floating in the sea, which is concerning. However, overall, it is a safe place to visit as there is a regular police presence patrolling the area, minimizing the risk of theft.

The beach is in a great spot, but it gets incredibly crowded on weekends. If you don't arrive early, you won't be able to find a spot to lay your towel, and it's almost impossible to reach the water without stepping on someone's belongings.

We spent the morning at a small inlet beach in Urca, which may not be the typical expansive white sand coastline that people associate with Rio. However, it was a clean and cozy beach that was pleasantly uncrowded. It was also very child-friendly and definitely worth a visit! Additionally, there are cable car rides available between the mountains, although we haven't tried them yet. I'm sure the view from up there must be amazing.

4 Frustrating

I came here hoping to find a peaceful and pleasant beach, with no waves and perhaps some shade. However, I was extremely let down when I witnessed the untidy state of the beach. The sand and water were both dirty, which made me unable to swim. It's disheartening to see how people treat this beautiful natural environment.
