I spent my childhood at this beach and would surf there every day during the summer when the waves were good. Typically, there was a 1-2 foot swell, but on days with offshore winds, you could catch a decent 3-5 foot break. When it was flat, we would swim or paddle out to the floating pier a couple of hundred yards offshore. Sometimes, I would even ride my horse to the beach and carry my surfboard across the street from Laguna Blanca.
We used to grab suicides and hot dogs from the snack shop, which was always a treat.
Although it was a great spot for families, there was a runoff from the cliffs that had a sulfuric smell that I won't forget.
This beach is considered private because it's only accessible by foot, horseback, bicycle, or car through the secure gate, and memberships are typically held by Hope Ranch residents. However, technically, you could access the beach by walking from somewhere up or down the coast. I doubt anyone would notice or care if you decided to lay out on your towel among the members. If anyone asks, just tell them I said it was okay. 😜
