4-mile-beach is a hidden gem nestled away from highway 1, providing a magical experience for those who venture on the 10-minute walk between two hills to reach the beach. The seclusion of the beach creates a private atmosphere, while still offering ample space for everyone to enjoy.
Unlike other NorCal beaches, the weather can be cloudy and windy, and the ocean meets low cliffs abruptly. However, 4-mile-beach overcomes these challenges with its protective alcove that significantly cuts the wind and the funnel-shaped opening that provides decent sand coverage. Additionally, the concave shape of the coastline results in gentle waves.
Despite its beauty, the beach is not without its faults. The sea water in the mini-bay may not circulate well, leading to a slight odor and flies near the immediate coastline. However, this issue only affects the area closest to the water, and a short walk down the beach will lead you back to the refreshing ocean.
Overall, 4-mile-beach is one of the best beaches I have visited and I am sure to return frequently.
