Lovely beach with free parking. Gorgeous sunset views. Just a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Eureka.

Houda Point Beach
10 Aqua Peril

This stunning beach boasts breathtaking scenery that is sure to captivate visitors. It's a wonderful destination to take in the beauty of the ocean and all its splendor. For those who may struggle with the steep descent down to the shore, there is a convenient pathway complete with stairs. Additionally, there is a lovely walkway that leads down to the beach and provides a more manageable route for those who prefer a leisurely stroll. Overall, this is a truly enchanting location that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Moonstone Beach

The beach we visited was a great spot for dog owners, as it is dog-friendly and offers free parking. However, we did struggle to find a parking spot on the weekend, which was a bit of a hassle. The parking lot itself was also in need of some maintenance, with potholes making for a bumpy ride. Once we made it to the beach, we found that there were plenty of other dogs around, which could be a plus or a minus depending on your pet's preferences. We only stayed for a short time, but it seemed like many other visitors were settling in for a full day at the beach. One downside was the lack of shade, so be sure to bring your own if you plan on staying for a while. Overall, a decent spot for a quick stop, but be prepared for a bit of a parking challenge.

Mad River Beach
10 Luis Garcia

The lupines, brush, river, and beach offer a delightful setting for a leisurely stroll. The small dunes add to the charm of the area. The river also provides a wonderful opportunity for fishing. The ocean and river sides are equally fantastic and offer great spots to relax and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

This beach is undeniably one of my top picks. It is vast and has been a beloved spot for me since my childhood. The beach's level terrain is perfect for leisurely strolls and for little ones to frolic in the ocean's waves. It's not uncommon to spot some friendly furry friends, such as dogs and even horses. Additionally, camping and day use are both permitted on this beach.
