Latest reviews on Waimanalo Beach's beaches

Makapuu beach

This charming little beach attracts a plethora of families who come to spend their weekends here, setting up tents and enjoying the stunning scenery. The backdrop of majestic mountains provides a breathtaking view, and the sight of Rabbit Island and Kaohikaipu Island is simply mesmerizing. One can easily spend hours on this picturesque beach, basking in the sun and taking in the natural beauty that surrounds it.

Kailua Beach Park

This beach park is very nice. It tends to be super windy in April. There is an outdoor shower available to rinse off the sand. The bathrooms could use some improvement. The views are breathtaking and perfect for photos. There are also lots of birds.

Hanauma Bay

This beach is perfect for families as it is strictly prohibited to bring alcohol or drugs and play loud music. Parking costs $3 and entry is $25 per person, but it is advisable to make a reservation beforehand since only 1,400 people are allowed in daily. Upon entering the beach, you will receive educational information and be required to listen to the beach policy, which may cause a slight delay but not too long. Snorkel rentals are available on the beach or you can bring your own. The best time for snorkeling is in the morning as the water gets stirred up by the evening. A free shuttle is provided to bring you up and down the steep incline or you can walk. The beach closes at 3pm with the last shuttle leaving at 3:40pm and gates for cars to leave closing at 4pm. Overall, I would definitely come back as it was a very relaxing experience.

Lanikai Beach

I really enjoy going to this beach, but it's important to note that there are jellyfish present. Finding a parking spot can be difficult, and there's not much shade available. It can also get quite crowded. Despite all of this, the beach itself is fantastic. The sand is soft, the waves are gentle, and it's a great spot for families with children since the water is fairly shallow. Whenever I'm in Oahu, I always make a point to come back here.

Kailua Beach

Without a doubt, my favorite beach on Oahu! It has long stretches of soft, white sandy beach, with consistently blue water and gentle waves. It's ideal for wading as the water remains shallow for quite a distance, and there are no rocks to worry about. I even brought my floaty to spend hours floating here. The waves gently lap the shore, so if you prefer crashing waves, you should head to Makena for that experience. There is plenty of sandy beach space for families to spread out, and a few trees provide some shade as well. Additionally, there are proper bathrooms and shower areas available.

Sandy Beach
6 Affordable Vacations

The beach offers of stunning, robust waves with an undercurrent that adds to the adventurous vibe. The parking area is spacious and well-maintained with convenient access to clean and hygienic toilets and refreshing showers. A solitary food truck caters to the hunger pangs of the visitors. The presence of vigilant lifeguards in their watchtowers ensures the safety of the beachgoers. However, one needs to drive to reach this picturesque location.
