We have found a hidden gem on the Big Island - a beach that has become one of our favorites. However, reaching this beach can be quite challenging as it requires a 4-wheel drive or a tour that allows you to stay a bit longer before ascending the steep mountain. But once you get there, you will be rewarded with stunning black sands and the refreshing fresh water river that merges with the ocean. Keep an eye out for wild horses that often roam the area, adding to the natural beauty of this secluded spot.
This was the most challenging hike I've ever undertaken, but it was absolutely worth it. The place is incredible and magical. The beach stretches on for miles, and since it's so difficult to reach, you'll likely have it all to yourself.
This park is a must-see if you're in the area. The water near the lava rocks looks like it's glacier blue, and the views of the cliffs are truly spectacular. There's a huge grassy field that would be perfect for a picnic or playing games. Additionally, there are two sets of bathrooms and showers, which is a nice touch.
