If you're unable to catch a ride, it's certainly worth the effort to hike down to this beach as a tourist. Keep in mind that the descent is quite steep and there are some slippery spots to watch out for. It's best to avoid hiking or driving down during rainy weather. However, once you arrive, you'll be rewarded with an incredible view. The beach is truly remarkable, particularly if you venture across the river to the main beach. The sand is a striking black color, but be cautious of the tide. What may have been a knee-deep crossing earlier in the day could turn into a perilous swim after just a few hours of lounging on the beach.

The scenery at this beach is truly breathtaking. The lush trees, the soft lighting, the powdery sand, and the endless ocean make for an unforgettable view. Although the drive to and from the beach can be a bit nerve-wracking, especially for those not used to steep inclines and declines, I personally found it manageable since I'm accustomed to mountainous terrain. However, it's important to note that the tires on your vehicle should be suitable for such a journey, preferably 4-wheel drive for optimal safety. Before embarking on this adventure, it's crucial to check your tires and ensure they're in good condition. If you do make it to the beach, be sure to capture the drive down and back up on video, as it's an experience in itself.

We have found a hidden gem on the Big Island - a beach that has become one of our favorites. However, reaching this beach can be quite challenging as it requires a 4-wheel drive or a tour that allows you to stay a bit longer before ascending the steep mountain. But once you get there, you will be rewarded with stunning black sands and the refreshing fresh water river that merges with the ocean. Keep an eye out for wild horses that often roam the area, adding to the natural beauty of this secluded spot.

This beach is absolutely stunning. If you venture further north or west, you'll come across a hiking trail that spans approximately 30 miles, according to rumors. While there may be a chance of encountering wild pigs, I would gladly run a portion or the entirety of the trail. During my time on the big island, I rented a 4x4 Jeep, which made the descent much smoother. While it is possible to navigate without a 4x4, it may not be the most enjoyable experience. As someone who loves hiking, I must say that this road doesn't quite fit the bill. However, it's worth noting that there were no signs during my visit, so I wasted some time going in the wrong direction. Be sure to take the first right at the bottom of the hill, or else you might end up in areas where people are known to marry their own relatives and consume roadkill. You wouldn't want to be forced into a similar situation, would you?

We embarked on a thrilling adventure to reach the beach, driving our jeep from the lookout. The road leading down was steep and narrow, requiring us to be cautious of uphill traffic and wait in the pullouts for it to pass. On our way back, we had to utilize 4wd low to make our way up. Upon reaching the bottom of the road, we turned right to access the beach. The beach on the roadside was adorned with big cobbles, while the black sand beach was on the other side of the river. We witnessed people wading through the river to reach the beach, adding to the excitement of our experience.
