During our Road Trip through France, Ouistreham proved to be a delightful surprise. We were enamored with the location, our holiday home, and the discovery of an incredible restaurant (Le Phare) and a fantastic bakery. The town also boasts a charming walking street that leads to a magnificent beach.
At the busiest point (where the walking street terminates), there are market and food stalls, games and rides, and a large ferris wheel. Additionally, beach and watersport gear can be rented.
The beach itself is expansive and immaculately maintained. With plenty of lifeguards on duty, it's a safe spot for swimming and sunbathing.
What sets this beach apart is the wonderful boardwalk that extends westward. It's a long, flat walk that's perfect for strollers, wheelchairs, and even dogs (although not on the beach during high season). Along the way, you'll encounter charming beach huts and several fascinating war memorials. Take your time reading the informational plaques - there's much to be learned.
Overall, Ouistreham's beach has something for everyone - from beach bums to sporty types, walkers to history buffs. It's a fantastic place to spend time and we found ourselves returning every day before dinner.
