Latest reviews on Calvados's beaches

Omaha Beach
10 Chris Anderson

Omaha beach, like all the other landing sites in Normandy, prompts reflection and gratitude towards those who walked before us in vastly different circumstances. It is an incredibly moving place that serves as a powerful testament to unparalleled courage.

Asnelles Beach
10 T-Alco

Asnelles is a pleasant, low-key resort. It essentially shuts down at the end of August, as evidenced by this photo taken in early September. The worn British flag is even displayed upside down! The Carrefour store is well-stocked, and the boulangerie is good but closes at 1:00 PM and isn't open on Thursdays. There's a tiny market on Thursdays. The biscuit shop and tea room are good. However, there's limited choice for vegetarians seeking a good meal. Le Cale offers nothing, and O Dune Zen is overpriced, now under new management, and has declined in quality. The Italian place next door appears to be permanently closed. The best option is to go self-catering. The beach is lovely and expansive at low tide, and you can walk to the Mulberry Harbour.

Villerville Beach
10 Silas Everhart

This beach is simply paradise. Keep it to yourself, it's pristine and stunning.

Sword Beach
10 Nolan Thorne

We are all aware of the historical significance of this beach during WWII. It was a moving experience for my mother and me as we quietly reflected on the memorials, plaques, and information honoring the soldiers who landed on the shores of Northern France in 1944. It is important to be able to understand both French and English to fully appreciate the stories of these brave individuals. However, time has passed and now the beach serves as a peaceful place to relax and enjoy. The memories and gratitude will always remain, and our fallen heroes can now hear the sounds of freedom and happiness from their final resting place. A heartfelt thank you to all those involved in Operation Neptune and Operation Overlord.

Ouistreham Beach
8 Kadir Yilmaz

This beach is perfect for wind sports and activities. I plan on returning with a better itinerary. Additionally, the beach has a rich history and a large tide. However, the lack of sun in August was a bit disappointing.

Houlgate Beach
6 Anders Wexler

We had a well-arranged French breakfast from the local bakery while watching the sunrise at the beach. It was a peaceful spot along the Normandy coast, just as expected.
