The beach is stunning and conveniently located, however, the combination of sand and small stones can make walking barefoot uncomfortable after some time. Additionally, the water gets deep quite quickly, making it less suitable for younger children.

This beach in the Plakias area is our top pick. It's accessed via a small road that keeps the big buses away. The water is crystal clear and the bay's shape means there aren't many waves. You can rent sun beds for €6-€8 or opt for the more comfortable ones with thick mattresses for €20. Showers are available for everyone. There are two tavernas, and we preferred the one in the garden as the food was pricier but fresher and tastier.

Describing this beach is a challenge as it is truly stunning. The journey to reach it involves a few kilometers drive on a narrow and slightly rough road, but it is well worth the effort. Despite strong winds, the water remains calm without any waves, and its crystal clear and cool temperature offer a refreshing relief from the heat of the day. Ample parking is available, and a charming bar nestled in lush greenery provides a perfect spot to pause and enjoy a cup of coffee or juice. If you are not deterred by winding and narrow roads, this destination is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

This is one of my top picks for an authentic experience in Crete. The beach is fantastic and never too crowded, but it's best to arrive early to secure a good parking spot since parking is limited. The road leading to the beach is narrow but safe, with plenty of spots to pull over and wait for passing cars. The tavern serves delicious food, and I particularly enjoyed the pasticio. For an enchanting experience, I highly recommend staying at the hotel on the beach. It's a simple and affordable option, and you'll be able to enjoy the magic of the beach in the evening and at night. Plus, there are no mosquitoes to worry about!
