Located on Yuin land, a 4.5-hour drive from Sydney, Tuross Head is where the Tuross River and Lake converge with the sea. This meeting point creates relatively calm swimming spots, even when the surf is rough due to a big swell. Main Beach stands out as the best among these spots, featuring a charming arc of golden sand adorned with driftwood carried down the river from bushfires. Visitors often arrange and rearrange this driftwood into various structures. The beach is popular with families due to its safer waters and is overlooked by Tuross Beach Cabins & Campsites, where we are staying in a quaint beachfront cabin. It's a pleasant place to swim in a tranquil coastal village that has not yet been spoiled by overdevelopment. The lengthy drive from Sydney seems to have preserved its charm so far.

I've encountered pufferfish here previously, and the current can become quite strong in the deeper areas. There are some nice shells to be found. After the bushfires, there's a significant amount of driftwood—more than I've ever seen before, making it difficult to walk across the beach. I've also stayed in the cabins here, and they are pretty good.
