Be cautious if you come across seemingly abandoned piles of fruit anywhere—do not consume them. Authorities are now using 1080 bait in items like bananas in national parks (and other locations). This practice is likely harming the local cassowaries by contaminating the fruit with this substance, yet it is supported by the local council. A local cassowary organization is raising concerns that this method is endangering the already threatened cassowary population. Can you believe it?
