4 Frustrating

Attention tourists: I visited the beach tonight to see the penguins, but it was disappointing. The locals were walking their dogs (both on and off leash), jogging, and strolling along the beach while talking on their mobiles after dusk, which is when the penguins usually appear. After waiting for over an hour, we didn't see any penguins. The locals continued to arrive. The beach is beautiful during the day, although there are dog droppings. Thanks, Bicheno locals!

We were fortunate to spot a single penguin during our visit. On clear nights, you can also enjoy a stunning view of numerous stars. Make sure to bring your cameras and tripods! While the area is mostly sandy, you can set up your equipment on the rocks.

We discovered this beautiful stretch of beach while driving back to the main area of Bicheno. It's an excellent spot for taking photos of the coastline. We dipped our feet in the water to check the temperature - it was freezing! A truly lovely place to relax and unwind!

This is my second visit here. It's a very nice, amazing, and peaceful beach with striking red rocks located at the southern end. If you live nearby, I highly recommend coming to this beach to enjoy the sunset, take a walk along the shore, and soak in the beautiful moments—I’ve shared lots of sunset photos. I also highly recommend witnessing the sunrise as it emerges from the ocean—I have some stunning photos of that as well. Parking is easy, and standing on the red rocks is a perfect way to start your day and greet the sun! Just a heads-up, this is a hidden gem where you can watch penguins returning home every evening. Please be quiet and respectful.

This beach is absolutely delightful, with powder-fine sand that squeaks beneath your feet. The water is crystal clear, and there are numerous rock pools to explore. I've even spotted fairy penguins here. During low tide, you can walk across to Diamond Island. When I was younger, I used to body board in the chilly water. I suggest wearing a thick wetsuit if you plan on taking a dip.
