Fantastic beach with two distinct surf breaks, North Beach and Pyramid Rock. The eastern most spot, North Beach, is a dynamic location that changes with the seasons. During winter, the sandbars cover the reef, creating heavy and challenging waves that can be both a blessing and a curse. In contrast, springtime exposes the reef, resulting in a sloppier yet consistent wave that holds up well even with onshore winds. North Beach is known for its excellent waves, but it can get crowded, unlike the less frequented Pyramid Rock on the western side.
Pyramid Rock is a rocky outcropping reef break that offers lefts and rights depending on the swell. It is windier than North Beach, but on light wind days with swell, it can produce epic waves. However, it is not uncommon to spot tiger sharks in the line-up as the entrance to Kaneohe Bay is nearby. Both surf breaks attract skilled surfers, and beginners are advised to surf on smaller days and adhere to the etiquette.
Apart from the surf breaks, the beaches are perfect for family outings and relaxation. Dogs are allowed on the beach after 1500, and there are lifeguards to ensure safety during heavy swells. It is crucial to pay attention to the flags and follow the rules to avoid accidents. Overall, MCBH is a military base with a world-class beach that offers great waves, stunning views, and plenty of opportunities to unwind.
