I almost hesitate to share this place with others, lest it become too popular! However, I'll start by mentioning the negative aspects. During storms or when the harbor is being dredged, the smell can be unpleasant. Additionally, there used to be more sea life, but this is due to human impact rather than any fault of the beach itself.
This beach is located at the entrance of the Santa Cruz Harbor, making it a hub for boating activity. The lighthouse provides a beautiful backdrop, and Outrigger Santa Cruz has their base here for those interested in Aloha rowing. On Wednesdays, they hold races that are enjoyable to watch, and often boats are in need of additional crew members.
While I refer to it as "My Beach," Santa Cruz locals know it as "Bonfire Beach," as it's one of the few places in the county where bonfires are permitted. There are also some great restaurants and snack shops nearby, and beach volleyball is available. Parking is available for a fee. This beach truly is a gem, so let's keep it that way and allow the locals to enjoy it.
