Latest reviews on Princeville's beaches

Hideaways Beach

We arrived on a weekday at around 1 PM and were able to find a parking space. We were informed that the small parking area is usually full in the morning as local surfers come here to catch the waves and stay for a few hours, but it seems possible to find a parking spot in the afternoon. The entrance to the trail doesn't have any signs, but it's right next to the parking lot. The trail is quite short, taking only about 15 minutes to descend, but the slope is steep, so it's advisable to wear closed-toe shoes. Once you reach the bottom, you'll discover a small beach with plenty of shade. I suggest coming here earlier in the day as the beach faces north, causing it to get dark earlier in the afternoon.

When it comes to parking at this beach, it can be a bit of a challenge. However, fear not, as we have some helpful tips to make your experience smoother. First and foremost, keep an eye out for the small parking area, as it can be easy to miss. Alternatively, you can park about a fifth of a mile away and walk back to the beach. No permit is required, and there are restrooms available for your convenience. It is important to note that parking off the main road is not allowed. Once you arrive at the beach, it is important to be aware of the rip current, which is always present. However, if you snorkel between the currents, you should be fine. The reef, located about six inches below the water's surface, is relatively flat and partially covered in sand. You can walk out on the reef until you reach the first drop off, which is about four feet deep. The reef can be tricky to navigate, but if you keep going, it will open up and become deeper, reaching depths of up to 12 feet. The water is crystal clear, making it a great spot for snorkeling. It is worth noting that during the winter months, the surf may not always cooperate, so it is best to check conditions before heading out. Additionally, it is important to be respectful of the locals only signs that you may come across during your journey. While they may have been written by bitter individuals who think they are locals, only Hawaiians can truly be considered locals. So, be mindful and enjoy your time at this beautiful beach.

This beach is absolutely stunning! It's a peaceful and secluded spot that truly feels like paradise. However, it's important to note that the reef can be quite rough and there is a strong undercurrent in May, so it's only recommended for experienced swimmers. I can't stress enough how breathtakingly beautiful it is!

This stunning beach is the epitome of tranquility, providing a safe and welcoming environment for families to enjoy. The gentle waves lapping at the shore create a serene atmosphere, while the pristine condition of the beach ensures a clean and comfortable experience. Parking is conveniently located nearby, and finding a spot has never been an issue. The facilities are also top-notch, with clean bathrooms and outdoor showers available without any long waits. Overall, this beach is a true gem and a must-visit for anyone seeking a peaceful and enjoyable day in the sun.

Kauapea Beach

Wow, what a beach! It's absolutely stunning, awe-inspiring, and just downright wonderful. I couldn't help but repeat these words to the small crowd of beach bums around me. Although the descent was steep, it wasn't too challenging, so make sure to check out the Secret Beach Trailhead on Google Maps to get here quicker. While there were quite a few surfers, the beach wasn't too crowded, earning it the nickname Quiet Beach. However, it's not so secret anymore, as many people seem to know about it. I suppose the cat's out of the bag. Keep in mind that it's not the best spot for snorkeling during the winter months. Don't forget to give this review a thumbs up!

The beach is absolutely stunning, with its soft sand and a picturesque river that flows from the mountain and into the ocean. It's possible to wade in the river water, but it's important to be cautious and avoid going too far out towards the ocean opening due to the strong current.
