According to local advice, we headed to the public beach, but were quickly escorted out by a friendly young police officer due to the requirement of a tour guide during the arribadas, a time when turtles arrive en masse to hatch. We continued walking south past the Main Nesting Beach (MNB) and were treated to a stunning sunset that we will never forget.
While the beach itself was a sight to behold, the road conditions to Ostional town left much to be desired. The 7 to 10 miles of dirt road was riddled with potholes and took us a grueling 45 minutes to traverse in our 4x4 Toyota truck. To make matters worse, we had to cross a river with water up to 2 to 3 feet deep. Considering the amount of tourism in the area, we expected better road maintenance from the local authorities. All in all, we rate the area 3 stars due to the subpar road conditions.
