We visited Wisana for the first time in early August and we had an amazing experience. We stayed for four nights, wished we could stay longer. Wisana is a very small resort with just 10 beachfront chalets. Coming here, it was expected that the rooms would be very basic. But the beds were comfortable with spacious bathroom and generally clean. We were very well fed there with decent food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s also family friendly. Don’t expect great WiFi connection though. But that’s the whole point. Now to the best part. The amazing beach. The water is truly so clear and so clean. We enjoyed the snorkeling trip, especially to see and swim with turtles. The staff and everyone there was ever so helpful too. Will definitely come back.

Overall stay 3D2N was great. The staff (boys) were polite, kind and very attentive. My room (standard deluxe) was spacious with 2 double beds and a clean bathroom. All rooms are in front of the ocean so when you open the sliding door, you can see the ocean. The beach in front of the Wisana Village felt so private and calm. Mostly only guests are chilling, relaxing at the beach, no outside guests. The food was delicious. Loved the Malaysian cuisines and they also cooked 1 western dish such as spaghetti. They only accept cash, no transfer or QR. Probably should bring enough cash if you like to buy snacks or kayak. But my trip was all included - food (breakfast, lunch, tea time, dinner), snorkeling (3 points). Went out for kayak with friends - single rm40, double rm60. I definitely will come back.

4 Frustrating

A long overdue review. My stay started with the worst possible way. A caucasian couple checked in before us. The receptionist was all smiling and even went the extra miles by giving a long explanation including the limit of snorkeling area and what not. When it was my turn to check in, the receptionist didn’t give the same details and explanations, which is no big deal, but what pissed me off completely was she suddenly said to me that the room was not ready and if the room was ready, she would have let us checked in earlier, in a loud and sarcastic way. What a way to welcome your guests. It was ruined from the get go. This just shows the sad mentality of worshipping foreigners and double standard towards locals. To be fair, the beach is nice and other staffs especially those young boys were always helpful and respectful deserve the 2 stars from me

Overall we had a good stay at Wisana, it was nice to get away from hustle & bustle, be on a pristine beach where you barely see anyone else most of the time and the lack of connectivity actually meant our kids spent time playing basic card games & chatting with us (when we’re not having fun swimming/snorkeling/playing in the water). I like that it didn’t feel commercial. Yes it was pricey, but I like to think the cost goes to supporting one of if not the only locally owned businesses in the area and to employ the local staff who seemed like they also had time to enjoy life on the beach (saw them play volleyball in the evenings). To me it felt like staying with distant relatives (who you pay for the lodging). Pros: Again, the location, beautiful & clean beach, friendly and accommodating staff (they carried our bags off the boat to and from the room). Food had sufficient variety that there was something for everyone in my family to eat, and it was quite tasty. Very Malay family-style lauk, which I have missed since I live outside of Malaysia now. Both myself & husband loved the sambal belacan. We would suggest having more fish in the menu though because the fish we had for one of the days was the most popular dish for our family. There were plenty of deck chairs and spots outside for us to sit and enjoy the beach. Cons: Unfortunately I found the room. particularly the bathroom rather uncomfortable. Its chalet wooden style which is aesthetically a good idea but having wood in the bathroom is not. Lots of mold and wetness. Everything was clean when we arrived but the design made it hard to keep clean, especially with all the sand. We also had several power outages, because they had issues with the generator and it was just after Eid so they had some delay in getting it fixed. Other complaints are just typical of a tropical island.. mosquitoes, monkeys etc. Some of the guests were feeding the squirrels for some reason which encouraged them to come to the dining area. The wildlife I did love to see though were the beautiful sunbirds flocking the tree outside our chalet. We didn’t see very much if any living coral snorkeling from the beach but could see some fish on the left side, including baby sharks. The trip to Pulau Paku by boat organized by Wisana was nice though, beautiful coral and nice friendly boat driver. It was also cool to see the sea turtles on the second stop, but some boat drivers were feeding them so it introduced some artificial behaviour which detracted from the experience. We might come back again to have another island getaway but would hope the rooms & bathrooms get an update.

We had a perfect stay at Wisana Village. Starting from the peace and relaxing time that you can experience there, to the beautiful surroundings and fun activities. The staff is amazingly kind and attentive, and the food is really tasty. You get to experience the real deal. It truly is a magical place with great people. Get ready to see sharks (non aggressive, of course), turtles and plenty of coral & colorful fish, as it is a great place for snorkeling. Thank you Wisana for a non forgettable stay, and congratulations. We will remember it forever! :) David & Eva.
